Community Wall Raising Celebrates Affordable Housing Development

NeighborWorks Sacramento Region was joined by City of Williams’ Mayor Alfred Sellers Jr. and representatives from the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Housing Services for a ceremonial wall raising to kick off the construction of 10 Mutual Self-Help Housing homes in the City of Williams, California. This is the first Self-Help development for NeighborWorks Sacramento Region. USDA Mutual Self-Help Housing is a 50-year-old housing program where participating homemowners build their own home with the guidance of a technical assistance provider, NeighborWorks Sacramento. This event was the start of the homeowner’s participation in the program. Homeowners will spend 35 hours a week for 10 months building their homes and earning sweat equity in the process.
