The Oak Park Crop Swap is undergoing a transformation to become the Oak Park Skill Swap!  In 2007, the initial goal of the Oak Park Crop Swap was to provide an organized gardening related activity in Oak Park, with the ultimate goal of bringing a Community Garden to the Oak Park neighborhood.  Eight years later, Oak Park can boast 2 community gardens and the Oak Park Farmers Market, a project of NeighborWorks® Sacramento, which is open May through November.

Since 2008, neighbors participating in the Oak Park Crop Swap gathered in the summer on a weekly basis to trade homegrown produce and hear educational lectures on gardening related topics.  For many years the Oak Park Crop was very successful, with participating neighbors bringing diverse homegrown crops to share.  In the past few years we have noticed community members increasingly participating in the many gardening related projects in Oak Park and fewer people joining the regular Crop Swap.  Instead of continuing the Crop Swap as it has been operated for the past eight years, we are merging the Crop Swap with the Oak Park Farmers Market to create a robust and vibrant skill swap program.

The programming of the Skill Swap will be slightly different than the Oak Park Crop Swap, but the best part of the Oak Park Crop Swap will remain, providing quality educational opportunities for the Oak Park Community.  Every month in 2016, the Oak Park Farmers market will host the Oak Park Skill Swap, featuring an expert on a gardening related topic.  We are planning to recruit both neighborhood experts and tap into the vast experience of the farmers that grow the food for the Oak Park Farmers Market for our presenters. Members of the Oak Park Community will have the convenience of joining the Skill Swap while shopping at the farmers market!   Our goal is for the Oak Park Skill Swap to emulate the best of the Oak Park Crop Swap, including outstanding presenters, participation based activities, and an opportunity for neighbors to meet one another.

If you are interested in helping organize or present a topic at the Oak Park Skill Swap, please call Joany Titherington at 916-704-2843.

New improvements to McClatchy Park, funded through the City of Sacramento, to support the Farmers Market. Several improvements to the Park came in 2014 through a $2.8 million grant.

We visit each of our farmers and look for ways to provide technical assistance to help them develop their farming skills as well as their business skills so that they can expand their operations

In addition to providing fresh produce and supporting EBT customers, we provide a variety of resources and healthy activities. Pictured above is a free yoga class, provided by Yoga Seed Collective, held on Saturday mornings at the Market
